Oldest Watch Discovered in a Painting

Art history experts think they may have discovered the world’s oldest painting featuring the image of a watch. Experts at the Science Museum are looking at a 450 year old portrait which is thought to be of Cosimo I de Medici, Duke of Florence pictured holding a timepiece.

The earliest watches date from 1500 in Germany. Horologists and art history specialists have studied the painting and think that it may be the oldest that features a watch.

This is an exciting new development in the worlds of art and watches - the popularity of mens watches and timepieces grew from this point.

Seiko Launches Luxury Brand

Until recently Seiko's high-end all-mechanical watch making skills were reserved exclusively for the Japanese market, but with the introduction of their new Elite Collection, Seiko Ananta, the luxury Seiko watches will be sold internationally.

Seiko Ananta is a move towards Seiko’s gold to become a leading manufacture in womens and mens watches and represents an important step for the brand as a landmark collection, being the first all-mechanical Collection designed for the competitive and demanding luxury watch market.

The collection contains three mechanical calibres, two of which are brand new, while all three demonstrate Seiko's high standard for excellence in time-telling: superlative precision, long term reliability and power reserve. Design inspiration for both the case and the dial came from the Katana, the ancient art of sword-making first developed over 800 years ago. Each of the watch designs use Seiko's unique SPRON 510 alloy for the mainsprings to deliver enhanced performance.
