Men and their Toys

Men are renowned for their love of gadgets and anything technical seems to appeal to them. They wax lyrical about cars and the latest phones but the things that really seem to get them excited are watches.

They seem to love the design and look of watches as well as the mechanisms and functions. None more so than Seiko watches which are the preferred choice of many. This seems to be because they are well built, durable watches which look good but don’t carry a ridiculously high price tag.

New Dive Watch Launched

Dive style watches are increasingly one of the most popular types of mens watches. Ironically, this has little to do with the number of people partaking in water sports but more to do with the concept of sports wear, and particularly sports wear associated with water sports, being worn as fashion. This is clearly illustrated by the rising popularity of the surf wear brands on the high street like Billabong, O’Neill and Mambo.

It’s been calculated that 0.2% of the dive watches sold are to people who dive regularly.

The new JeanRichard Diverscope JR1000 has been launched recently and adds to the already extensive range of dive watches available on the market.

The Wristwatch - Where it all Began

Today the wristwatch is rather taken for granted, most people own one and some are considered to be status symbols and are very glamorous indeed. But the wristwatch evolved for practical reasons.

During the 19th Century soldiers began to find carrying pocket watches inconvenient and cumbersome and so they began to develop their own “homemade” wristwatches using very basic leather straps to attach their pocket watches to their wrists. This left both hands free to operate weaponry during battle and enabled them to check the time and synchronize their watches when necessary.

The wristwatch continued to develop from these humble beginnings and currently there are hundreds of varieties of wristwatches available including Breil Watches and Seiko Watches.
