The Many Faces of Time

A traditional watch or clock displays the time on a face through the use of numbers and dials. The minute hand rotates around the face once an hour and the second hand makes one revolution every minute.

Generally clocks and watches use 12 hour dials but in some places, such as in the military services the 24 hour clock is in operation. Instead of standard numbers often roman numerals are used or sometimes just a line or dot is put in the place of a number. Digital watch faces just show the time as numbers.

Watch companies from Breil watches to Seiko offer a wide range of watch faces. Improvements and new designs are brought onto the market to catch the eye and impress the watch wearing public. Traditional mechanical watches are still popular but battery operated watches are increasingly more common. Digital watches are still sort after as more and more interesting designs are introduced.
